It was great to see so many of you at the Google Meet yesterday! If you had problems getting into the meet, please email me and let me know what happened. I'm learning how to set these up too so there may be something I can change to make it easier to get in. We will have another Meet this week - I will send details to your school email address to tell you how to join.
Take some time to do your morning check in - click in the image and fill in the questions.

Secret Mission
Do something to brighten the day of people walking down your street. Lots of people are going walking or biking to get some fresh air and exercise while still staying in their bubble. Do something to make them smile while they pass your house.
- grab some chalk and write a kind message on the footpath for them to read (if you haven't got your own chalk, you can make some chalk with eggshells or chalk with cornflour)
- make some washable paint to create some sidewalk art (to make the paint mix 1 cup of cornflour with 1 cup of water and add some food colouring - just a bit at a time! - until you get the colour you want). Check out Julian Beaver's sidewalk art for some inspiration.
- make an encouraging sign or poster to hang on your fence
- paint some stones with bright colours or kind messages to leave in your garden.
Get other people in your bubble to help you! And remember to stay in your bubble when you are outside!

Start of Day Activity (S.O.D.A.)
Finish the drawing - Take this image and use it as a base to create a drawing - use your imagination, what could it become? You can turn or rotate it to suit what you want to create. You can either open the image, print it and draw, copy it onto a blank piece of paper and draw or draw online through Google Draw. Take a photo of your creation and send it to me ([email protected]).

Daily 5 (Literacy - Reading, Writing and Spelling)
Reading to Self
Head to Kiwi Kids News and do 15-20 minutes of reading. Read something from each of the sections (National, World, Odd Stuff, Sport).
If you do not have access to a device, read from a book of your choice at home.

Reading to a Buddy
Read to a pet or your favourite toy! Use lots of expression when you are reading so they understand what the text is about. Remember, it doesn't need to be a book - you might be helping in the kitchen by reading the recipe to someone as they cook/bake or you might be reading the instructions of how to make something. Sometimes instructions don't have words and you need to 'read' the pictures - that's a great skill to practice too! |
Listening to Reading
Listen to a text on Epic Books. Do a search for books about Autumn. |
Working with Words
The sentence is Keep the sheep asleep. (I've only got a little whiteboard!)
Spelling - practice your spelling words by skipping your spelling. Use your ten words on your list (see yesterday's post about checking your spelling words).
Typing Club - many of you have set goals around improving your typing skills. Typing Club is a great way to do this! Spend 10-15 minutes exploring how Typing Club works.
To log in you need to be using your school Google account (eg [email protected]) and click this Typing Club link. If you are not using your Google account you will be asked to enter it - this joins you to our class.

From your senses survey, you are going to create an Autumn word bank (you can use this doc or use a piece of paper). Write down words that tell us about Autumn. Here are some examples;
Watch this YouTube clip to give you some more ideas.
Add more words to your word bank as you discover them. You can use nouns (names of things) adjectives (words that describe nouns) and verbs (words that say what things are doing or feeling).
Highlight the nouns in red, adjectives in green and verbs in yellow.
Ask others in your bubble to help you add to your word bank. Keep your word bank for tomorrow's writing task.

Daily 3 (Maths)
Basic Facts Log in to eAko maths to practice your basic facts - your username and password is on your sheet from school. Go to Number Facts (you should see a flag on it). There has been a lot of demand on eAko maths so it may not load straight away. |
You can also practice your basic facts using fact triangles.
Choose your times table and practice your families of facts like the example above. The best order to learn your tables is 2s, 5s, 10s, 3s, 4s, 6s, 7s, 8s, 9s, 11s, 12s.
Either choose a different times table than yesterday or practice different facts from the same times table.

Use LEGO or draw pictures to make these fractions (using a rectangle or square is the best way to draw fractions - circles are hard).
Use this Google Slide to help you understand Equivalent Fractions.
Click on the Full Screen icon to view. Remember to press pause when you are working on a task.
Prodigy
Log in to your Prodigy account (it's on your log in sheet from school) and take on the fractions based challenges that have been loaded.

Putatara - ANZACs
Our Putatara focus is Turangawaewae - understanding where we stand. We are discovering ourselves by understanding who and what have gone before.
25 April is ANZAC Day but this year there will not be the usual ANZAC Day ceremonies in the community. Due to the Level 4 restrictions, this will be the first year in history that people cannot gather for ANZAC Day services. Together, we can going to get a better understanding of what ANZAC Day means and how we can commemorate it in our own bubbles.

- do you have any relatives who fought in World War 1 or World War 2?
- where and when were they involved?
- interesting facts about their time as an ANZAC.
