Tomorrow (Thursday) our meet will have a music theme. If you play a musical instrument that you would like to share with the class then bring it along and you can play for us! Lots of you have lessons but we don't often get to hear you play so here is your chance! Other people from your bubble might want to join you too!

Secret Mission
While people have been at home during Alert Level 4 they have taken time to tidy through their things and work out what they might not need anymore. You might have some clothes that are too small for you or that you don't really wear, or you might have some toys that you don't play with anymore. Talk to someone in your bubble about collecting these things up and donating them to a charity.

Reading to a Buddy
Read to a pet or your favourite toy! Use lots of expression when you are reading so they understand what the text is about. Remember, it doesn't need to be a book - you might be helping in the kitchen by reading the recipe to someone as they cook/bake or you might be reading the instructions of how to make something. Sometimes instructions don't have words and you need to 'read' the pictures - that's a great skill to practice too!
Listening to Reading
Listen to some texts on Sunshine Online.
Working with Words
Complete today's handwriting.
Today's focus is the ou combination. Use the photo and video below to help you. You can borrow my sentence or create your own that uses as many words with our letter combination as possible.

Spelling - today's activity is word search. Use your ten list words to make a word search. You can do it on paper or online here.
Typing Club - many of you have set goals around improving your typing skills. Typing Club is a great way to do this! Spend 10-15 minutes exploring how Typing Club works.
To log in you need to be using your school Google account (eg [email protected]) and click this Typing Club link. If you are not using your Google account you will be asked to enter it - this joins you to our class.

Today is our last day working on the Character Conversations task and narrative piece of writing from that. Remember, you need to complete each section in order. Clicking on the date below will link you to the activity (you will need to scroll down to it on that particular day).
29th April - Character Conversations
30th April - turning speech bubbles into text
1st May - describing the scene
When you have each of these, you now need to work on putting the full piece of writing together, including your character conversations and your description of the scene.
Add a problem within your piece of writing to make it a narrative piece of writing which tells a made up story. Use these models to help you put your piece of writing together.

Remember, write some, go away and do something else for 15-20 minutes then come back and read what you have done and write some more. Don't be afraid to add to what you already have or make changes to it to improve your writing.
It's time to think about how you are going to present your writing. You can make it into a book with chapters if that works for your piece of writing, you could make it into a comic strip, make it into a Google slide using the scenes and characters from the Character Conversations slide, add pictures to your story typed in a Google Doc, create a video of you reading your story or ask people in your bubble to help your act out your story.

Showcasing New Zealand
New Zealand is represented at Expo 2020 Dubai, an international event in the United Arab Emirates celebrating the things that make each country unique and sharing it with the world.
You are part of the team creating the showcase for this event. The showcase needs to include information for visitors about New Zealand's flora (plant) and fauna (bird and animal) taonga (natural treasures).
Part One
Awesome! I think just about everyone has chosen their taonga! This is great because it means I can send you information or links to sites to help you with your investigation. You will find the files in the Shared with Me part of your Drive.

Part Two
Now that you have chosen your taonga, let's do some thinking.
Create a T-chart like the one below. On the left-hand side record what you know already about your taonga. On the right-hand side record what you would like to know (think about what will be important to know to share with visitors to the expo as the expert about your taonga).

Part Three
Know it's time to investigate! Take the things that you want to know and find information to answer your questions. As the expert, you will need to know things like where your taonga is found, what it needs to survive, what it looks like, sounds like or feels like, where it lives, if it is famous for anything and interesting facts about your chosen taonga. You might find out information about how many are left in New Zealand and any projects that are underway to help save them if they are endangered.
When you are recording your information you need to practice note taking. This is when you pick out the key words and record these instead of just copying what another person has written (if you are just copying and pasting it won't help you to become an expert because you won't remember the information).

Here are some different ways you can take your notes - you just need to record the key words and when you create your presentation you will 'fill in the gaps' to make it make sense.
Use Tic-Tac-Toe note-taking to keep key words about certain topics together. Make each part of the Tic-Tac-Toe grid a different topic you are collecting information about (eg what it looks like in one section, where it lives in another section, etc
Make this data gathering chart bigger to include more boxes to get the information that you need.
Collecting this information will take a few sessions - I do not expect you to do it all at once!
Part Four
The rubric below gives you an idea of how detailed your information should be.

You could make a book, a pamphlet, a poster, a Google Slide, a Google Site (like your blog), a video, write a song or a combination of these things . . . the choice is yours and you can have someone in your bubble help you.
