Secret Mission
Be ASACEs and show some Allenton School Aroha around our community. Print out one of these posters and display it in your window, or somewhere that people can see, when they are out and about. Just like your teddy bears and ANZAC poppies. One poster is ready to go, the other needs colouring in (maybe use our school colours). If you haven't got a printer, make your own Allenton School ASACE Aroha poster. I wonder how many you will be able to count when you are out walking and cycling.

S.O.D.A. - Start Of the Day Activity
NZ Music Month
Daily 5 (Literacy - Reading, Writing and Spelling)
Reading to Self
PM Books - I have created accounts for each of you through PM Books and there are sessions set up for you. Your log in details have been sent to your email address so click here and log in (if you can't find yours email me and I can re-send it). Your reading session will be at the top of the library. OR Choose something to read from home - a book, a magazine, a comic, a recipe, a set of instructions . . . the choice is yours! |
Reading to a Buddy
Read to a pet or your favourite toy! Use lots of expression when you are reading so they understand what the text is about. Remember, it doesn't need to be a book - you might be helping in the kitchen by reading the recipe to someone as they cook/bake or you might be reading the instructions of how to make something. Sometimes instructions don't have words and you need to 'read' the pictures - that's a great skill to practice too! |
Listening to Reading
Choose a text from Vooks (the log in is on your sheet from school). |
Working with Words
Spelling - today's activity is Code Breaker. Use your ten list words.
Typing Club - many of you have set goals around improving your typing skills. Typing Club is a great way to do this! Spend 10-15 minutes working on Typing Club.
To log in you need to be using your school Google account (eg [email protected]) and click this Typing Club link. If you are not using your Google account you will be asked to enter it - this joins you to our class.

If you missed it yesterday, you need to do the drawing made up animals task from yesterday before you do today's task. Find it on 7 May activities under Working on Writing.
Animalobscura
LOOK: This is a picture that the artist Albrecht Durer drew of a rhinoceros. The crazy thing? He had only had a rhinoceros described to him - he had never seen one in real life and the internet photos and movies didn't exist yet.
TALK: How do you think he did? What would you give him out of ten? Have you ever had something described to you and when you finally saw it it was exactly as you had imagined? What about the opposite ? Has anything ever turned out to be even better/crazier/more incredible?
DO: Take your mixed up animal you created yesterday. Write a description of your animal for other people then to draw, just like Albrecht Durer did. You cannot use the name of an existing animal in your description (eg you can't say it has a horn like a rhino but you could say it has a triangle shaped horn that curves backwards and is on it's snout between it's eye and it's nostrils).
Your descriptions will be shared for other people to draw.

Putatara
Showcasing New Zealand
New Zealand is represented at Expo 2020 Dubai, an international event in the United Arab Emirates celebrating the things that make each country unique and sharing it with the world.
You are part of the team creating the showcase for this event. The showcase needs to include information for visitors about New Zealand's flora (plant) and fauna (bird and animal) taonga (natural treasures).
It is great to see that people are well underway with Part One, Part Two and Part Three of their investigation. If you need to, check back here to see what you need to do (scroll down to the Putatara section).
Part Four
The rubric below gives you an idea of how detailed your information should be.

When you are collecting your information you might want to think about how you are going to present it as the expert at Expo 2020 Dubai.
You could make a book, a pamphlet, a poster, a Google Slide, a Google Site (like your blog), a video, write a song or a combination of these things . . . the choice is yours and you can have someone in your bubble help you.
