Morena tamariki! Welcome to day three of home learning.
WE ARE HAVING A GOOGLE MEET! Today's meet will be at 10am just like Wednesday's but you will join it in a different way.
First, you need to be logged in to your Google account (the one with @allenton.school.nz).
Next, go to meet.google.com at 10am and type in our meet nickname allentonroom2meet and it will then let you join the meet! I have sent an email to your parents to let them know how to do it too. Hope to see you there!

Secret Mission
Do something to brighten the day of people walking down your street. Lots of people are going walking or biking to get some fresh air and exercise while still staying in their bubble. Do something to make them smile while they pass your house.
- grab some chalk and write a kind message on the footpath for them to read (if you haven't got your own chalk, you can make some chalk with eggshells or chalk with cornflour)
- make some washable paint to create some sidewalk art (to make the paint mix 1 cup of cornflour with 1 cup of water and add some food colouring - just a bit at a time! - until you get the colour you want). Check out Julian Beaver's sidewalk art for some inspiration.
- make an encouraging sign or poster to hang on your fence
- paint some stones with bright colours or kind messages to leave in your garden.
Get other people in your bubble to help you! And remember to stay in your bubble when you are outside!

Daily 5 (Literacy - Reading, Writing and Spelling)
Reading to Self
We are trying something different for reading to self today! I have created accounts for each of you through PM Books and there are sessions set up for you. Your log in details have been sent to your email address so click here and log in. Your reading session will be at the top of the library. Choose one book to read - you can turn your microphone on and record yourself reading too. |
Reading to a Buddy
Listening to Reading
Listen to a text on Radio New Zealand Storytime. |
Working with Words
Spelling - today's activity is Syllable Sort. Remember, syllables are like the chunks of the word when you say it.
Use your ten words on your list (see Wednesday's post about checking your spelling words).
Typing Club - many of you have set goals around improving your typing skills. Typing Club is a great way to do this! Spend 10-15 minutes exploring how Typing Club works.
To log in you need to be using your school Google account (eg [email protected]) and click this Typing Club link. If you are not using your Google account you will be asked to enter it - this joins you to our class.

Here is another great New Zealand autumn YouTube clip - use this to add to your word bank you created yesterday.
Now that you've created your Autumn word bank it's time to get creative with some poetic writing. Use your word bank to create either an acrostic poem or a cinquian . . . what are they? I hear you ask.
Can you write another acrostic or cinquian poem focusing on a particular feature of Autumn? Leaves, cooler weather, trees, shorter days, deciduous trees could be ideas to work with. Share your work with me so I can put it on the Home Learning Superheroes page (take a photo, present it in a video, share your document).
Daily 3 (Maths)
Basic Facts
Noggle time! Use today's grid to create number sentences that equal the target number 25. You can use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Challenge someone at home to see who can come up with the best number sentence.

Fractions
Make a fractions wall or fraction kit! Fast forward the video to 2:00 minutes. This is a video from America so when he talks about measuring strips to be 3 inches wide this is the same as 7.62cm but make them 7.5cm.

Watch this video to learn about equivalent fractions.
Birthday Cakes - this video shows you how to find fractions of a set using multiplication. Watch him solve the first problem. Pause the video after he tells you the second problem, see if you can solve it and then watch how he solves it.
Share what you have learnt from either of these videos by creating your own! Use the maths manipulatives on Mathigon or Glencoe Maths and record your screen using Screencastify (that's the Chrome extension we used to record our mihi - set it to desktop and it will record what you do on your screen and if the microphone is on it will record you explaining what you are doing!) |
Prodigy
Log in to your Prodigy account (it's on your log in sheet from school) and take on the fractions based challenges that have been loaded.
Putatara - ANZACs
Over the next two weeks, please take the time to complete some of the activities from the choices below.
Show evidence of your work through photos and emailing them to me ([email protected]), or adding your work to your Teacher Check folder in your Drive.
