Our Google Meets are going to be a bit different this week - we will still have meets open to the whole class but there will also be small group meets so that it is easier for everyone to share. Your meet times will be emailed to your Google address (the one with @allenton.school.nz) and will be posted here the day before the meet.
9am Whole Class Meet - a chance for everyone to see each other and have a quick catch up. I will also show you what is on the weebly for the day.
The other Google Meets will be in smaller groups and will be a chance for you to share what you have been doing at home.
9:30am Kairo, Ash, Triya, Zeke, Aggelos
9:45am Mahtaab, Oliver, Ana, Aiden, Skyla, Marlee
10:00am Maddie, Ramjeld, Ellie, Rhain, Zoe
10:15am Cassie, Charlotte, Briar, Taniora, Buthmi

Daily 5 (Literacy - Reading, Writing and Spelling)
Reading to Self
PM Books - I have created accounts for each of you through PM Books and there are sessions set up for you. Your log in details have been sent to your email address so click here and log in. Your reading session will be at the top of the library. You get to your group books by clicking on the image at the top of the book shelf (like the image below). Choose one book to read - you can turn your microphone on and record yourself reading too. It does look like they are books for younger children, there are those but there are books for you too (that's why they are in a group at the top of the library). |
Reading to a Buddy
Read to someone in your family. Remember, it doesn't need to be a book - you might be helping in the kitchen by reading the recipe to someone as they cook/bake or you might be reading the instructions of how to make something. Sometimes instructions don't have words and you need to 'read' the pictures - that's a great skill to practice too! |
Listening to Reading
Working with Words
Spelling - today's activity is Rainbow Writing. Remember, ROYGBIV! Use your ten list words.
Typing Club - many of you have set goals around improving your typing skills. Typing Club is a great way to do this! Spend 10-15 minutes exploring how Typing Club works.
To log in you need to be using your school Google account (eg [email protected]) and click this Typing Club link. If you are not using your Google account you will be asked to enter it - this joins you to our class.

This week we are going to work on creating a poetry anthology. An anthology is a collection of poems either by the same author or a group of authors.
Each day you will pick a different type of poem to explore from the examples below. You can use any subject or theme for your poem that you choose. You might use something from your bubble, your favourite colour, your favourite food, a friend or family member, an experience you have had - the choose is yours!
Each of the poetry types below shows you how to put the poem together and gives you an example of what it looks like.

By the end of the week you will have at least five poems for your anthology and you will pick your favourite to be part of our class anthology.
Daily 3 (Maths)
Basic Facts
Noggle time! Use today's grid to create number sentences that equal the target number 30. You can use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Challenge someone at home to see who can come up with the best number sentence.
Use Prototec to practice your basic facts.
Remember if a quiz is too easy or too hard to change which one you are doing.

Fractions
Explore equivalent fractions on Fraction Equality Lab - there are two options, Equality Lab (where you can explore different fractions) or the Game (where you need to match the different ways each fraction could be shown).
Here's another site to explore fractions, it's called Fraction Matcher.
People in the Toru group who were exploring decimals before we left school should spend some time exploring this site which helps you take fractions, see what they are as a percentage and what they are as a decimal. Check out the videos below about decimals too.

Remember that fraction kit / fraction wall from last week? (fast forward the video to 2:00 minutes).
If you haven't already made it, have a go, and then use it to help you answer these questions. Click the image to open.
Prodigy
Log in to your Prodigy account (it's on your log in sheet from school) and take on the fractions based challenges that have been loaded.

ANZAC Wreath
This year people in New Zealand won't be able to attend ANZAC services like they normally do. We will need to celebrate in our bubbles instead. One idea that people have talked about is standing at the end of your driveway at 6am (when the dawn service would normally start).
You could make an ANZAC wreath to hang on your fence or letterbox (this is what that egg carton was for!) There are some easy to follow instructions on Crafty Morning's blog.
