Welcome to day one of Home Learning at Level 3! The only thing that changes for our Home Learning at Level 3 is that some days Mrs Corcoran will be based at school - your home learning remains the same.
We will continue to have Google Meets and the times for these meets will be sent to email addresses and posted here. Please check carefully as times and groups have changed.

Secret Mission
S.O.D.A. - Start Of the Day Activity
One of the big changes that people are excited about at Level 3 is being able to get takeaways or order food to have delivered. Mrs Maginness says that this has been a big topic for discussion in her house! So we want to know, if you could pick your favourite takeaway or restaurant food to have tonight, what would it be? Draw it, describe it, put together an Alert Level 3 Takeaway Wish List for your bubble. When making your wish list, you can combine items from different places or make changes to them to make it the best Alert Level 3 Takeaway Wish List ever! |

Reading to a Buddy
Read to someone in your family. Remember, it doesn't need to be a book - you might be helping in the kitchen by reading the recipe to someone as they cook/bake or you might be reading the instructions of how to make something. Sometimes instructions don't have words and you need to 'read' the pictures - that's a great skill to practice too!
Listening to Reading
Working with Words
Spelling - time to change your spelling words. Use the Essential List spelling videos to test your current list (if you are not sure what list you are on, send me an email). Ask someone at home to check your words and make a new list of ten words to practice using the words you are unsure of from the list. You will use this list for the spelling activities for the next week. If you are on List 9 or 10, choose your ten words from the list (you will see them when you scroll down on the Essential List spelling videos page).
Typing Club - practice your typing skills using Typing Club.
To log in you need to be using your school Google account (eg [email protected]) and click this Typing Club link. If you are not using your Google account you will be asked to enter it - this joins you to our class.

This week our focus for writing is on how to record the speech of characters correctly in your writing.
First, you need to create some characters who have something to say!

Make a copy of this Character Conversations Google slide to create your own characters, scene and conversations. The instructions are on the first page of the slide and instructions on how to make your own characters are further through the slides. |
Pick your scene (just one scene to start with) and your characters carefully . . . you will be using this to build your text over the next few days.

Log in to your Prodigy account (it's on your log in sheet from school) and take on the fractions based challenges that have been loaded.
Well done everyone who has been working on Prodigy! I can see that you have worked on lots of problems using fractions!

Showcasing New Zealand
New Zealand is represented at Expo 2020 Dubai, an international event in the United Arab Emirates celebrating the things that make each country unique and sharing it with the world.
You are part of the team creating the showcase for this event. The showcase needs to include information for visitors about New Zealand's flora (plant) and fauna (bird and animal) taonga (natural treasures).
Choose a native bird, animal/mammal, reptile, insect, spider, plant, flower or tree to become the expert on for the showcase. Use a Google search to help you decide what you will become an expert on. Do some initial inquiry about your chosen taonga (on Thursday, information about what you will need to investigate will be posted).
When you have chosen your taonga, please let me know so I can help you with some sources of information. Either let me know at the next Google Meet or send me an email.
Check out the information below so that you are sure your choice is endemic or native to New Zealand and not introduced.
